For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15:19.
Let’s be
honest with ourselves. The heart cannot be controlled by mere human strength or
will. For example, go to sleep; are you able to control your dreams? Actually
in some cases your dreams reveal some things to you that might cause you to
wake up in shame. Jesus calls us all to the front of the class to tell us that
our hearts are wicked (Jeremiah 17:9), and we can't escape this truth. What are
we to do with something that is undeniably true? What are we to do but go to
the one who perfectly cares to show us our hearts, and at the same time dies to
save us? Shall we reject what has been said about the human heart? I tell you
the truth, the world we live in has done just that; and it's done with a smile.
"Keep your head up," they say, "Smile at the camera of
life," "Be the best you that you can be." Let’s be real, because
of sin, we all have a problem with being the "best us" (Romans 3:10).
In God's eyes the best us is sin, and unless we see that we will not appreciate
the truth of the Gospel. The Good News that Jesus the righteous One came to die
for the unrighteous, that through His perfect life, His sacrificial death, and
His resurrection, many can be made right with the Father to have a right
relationship with Him now and forever- Reconciled to the Father, Son, and the
Holy Spirit because of Jesus and not our own righteousness. I guess what I'm
trying to say is, don't trust yourself, but trust in Jesus alone. He is our
hope. Lay at His feet and walk by faith in Him. Be reconciled to the Father
through Him. The heart is wicked and Jesus knows that, but He is not wicked,
and He died for the ungodly (Romans 5:6). Repent and Believe. Turn and Trust in
Jesus in every way and you will be saved forever.
